Yachimun Pottery

Yachimun Pottery
With kilns that have been active for over 300 years, Okinawan pottery is generally classified into two categories: the unglazed Arayaki ware and the glazed Joyaki ware.

The yachimun we have at Akabanaa are Joyaki ware produced in Yomitan Village's Yachimun no Sato (Pottery Village). There are approximately 40 kilns and numerous potters in Yachimun no Sato who create their masterpieces year round.

The traditional pottery of Okinawa is simple in shape, often with bold decoration and has an overall unhurried feel to it.
